My mom made these cookies for my brother and me when we were small. She would bake them for church potlucks and school classroom parties. She was known for these cookies, and everyone loved them! I baked them for my kids and now for my grandkids. My daughter bakes them as well! My friend called them “muffin cookies” because of their soft, moist texture. They are just so good!

Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 egg, well-beaten
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Directions:
- Mix together flour, sugar, soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
- Cut in shortening with pastry blender.
- Add egg, bananas, oats, and nuts.
- Drop by spoonfuls on parchment-lined cookie sheet.
- Bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Don’t overbake.
- Store in an air-tight container.
